Cliffs of the Neuse State Park

Our quest to visit all 41 North Carolina State Parks kept us on the eastern side of the state.  Cliffs of the Neuse State Park is about an hour and a half away from us so we decided to travel there next.  Friday evening came, we packed up our camping gear into the car, and headed towards our destination.

We added an extra turbo so we could get there faster...just kidding.

After an uneventful trip through rural Eastern North Carolina, we arrived at our campsite.  It was very hot outside, so we took our time setting up our camp.  This was the third time we had set up our Coleman tent, so it went up easily.  We’ve quickly fallen in love with this new tent.  You can read more about it HERE.

Burgers were prepared ahead of time, so making dinner went quick.

We enjoyed a nice dinner at our picnic table.  Potato chips accompanied the burgers we grilled.  For dessert, we tried some new bourbon.

Once it got dark, we thoroughly enjoyed our campfire.

On this trip, we decided to not cook anything for breakfast.  Cold brew coffee and some breakfast bars helped us start our day.  We found lunch at a VERY eclectic Mexican restaurant in Goldsboro, North Carolina.  After lunch we made our way to Carolina Outlets to walk off our lunch and take advantage of the air conditioning.  Upon returning to Cliffs of the Neuse SP, we decided to check out the visitor’s center.

One of the biggest attractions of Cliffs of the Neuse SP is the lake, so we decided to check that out.  It was very peaceful, so we took a seat on the boat dock and enjoyed the scenery.

Nature never ceases to amaze us.  While enjoying a relaxing evening at our campsite, we were joined by an inquisitive owl.

After dinner, we made sure that our firewood was fully stocked.

Let's build a huge fire!

Before dark, we decided to check out the overlook.

The next morning, an early morning hike was in order.

The river was amazing.

Overall we really enjoyed our time at this state park.  We would recommend visiting this park in the Spring or Fall, when the temperature is more tolerable.
